HELLO, I'M

Tracy Jones.

I am running for the Iowa House, right here in Scott County.

Tracy's Why:

"I am a proud resident of HD 94 where I have lived for almost 12 years. I am running for the Iowa House because I love our community and believe many of the decisions being made in Des Moines do not reflect Iowa values. It's time for Iowans and my fellow Scott County residents to have a voice."

Meet Tracy

My name is Tracy Jones and I am a lifelong Quad Cities area resident. I moved to Scott County, Iowa in 2012 - first living in Bettendorf and moving to Davenport in 2020. I married my wonderful husband, Derek, in 2013. I’m the proud mother of two amazing adult children and a bunch of adorable rescue animals. I work for the Rock Island County Circuit Clerk as a Lead Court Specialist. As an employee of Rock Island County, I’m an AFSCME union member. During my twenty plus years with AFSCME, I have served as vice president, chief steward and delegate to the QC Federation of Labor.  From 2017-2023, I was the AFSCME Area 4 People Chair which is the political body of AFSCME.  During my tenure, we were able to elect many pro worker candidates and help stop the privatization of the water system in Rock Island.  I enjoy being active within our community and continue to work as an organizer, union member and volunteer. I’m dedicated to standing up and speaking up for our community because everyone deserves to be heard.

Issues

THE ISSUES

"The issue of reproductive rights is personal to me. My siblings and I lost our mom in 1972 -6 months prior to the passing of Roe V Wade- because she could not obtain a life-saving abortion.  My mom, Shirley, was a newly divorced woman with three young children when she became pregnant. She suffered from severe preeclampsia and realized, as the pregnancy progressed, that she needed an abortion. An Illinois resident, she had to travel to New York for a safe and legal abortion. Once there, she was turned away because she was past 24 weeks of pregnancy. She returned home knowing what her fate was to be and died a few weeks later. My siblings and I hoped we would be the last generation to carry this grief. However, with the overturning of Roe, there will be more families with our story. Abortion is healthcare. Healthcare decisions are between a patient and their physician.  I will always stand up for reproductive rights."

Reproductive Rights

"As a third generation union member, I know the value of organized labor and collective bargaining. In 2017, the Republican led Iowa legislature gutted public employee unions. In more recent years, Iowa Republicans have continued to show their disdain for workers by refusing to raise the minimum wage, dangerously loosened child labor laws, and passed legislation that made employers immune from fines and penalties should an employee become injured on the job. Our state cannot continue these attacks on workers and believe we can sustain our valuable workforce. We need to embrace all workers and treat them with the respect, dignity and pay they deserve. I will always stand shoulder to shoulder with my union brothers and sisters and all of Iowa’s workforce because, as my UAW dad taught me, “harm to one is harm to all”.

Strong Public Education

"Public education is an investment in our future. My family attended public schools in Illinois. When I moved to Iowa, my husband loved to brag about Iowa’s public schools. He graduated from Bettendorf public schools where his mom was a teacher for over 25 years and went on to the University of Iowa for undergraduate and graduate school. I see the pride he has in his Iowa education. I wonder if the next generations of Iowa’s children will feel the same.  Iowa Republicans have been attacking public education by proposing cameras in the classrooms, instituting book bans, championing school voucher programs that funnel public dollars to private schools, and most recently by proposing to cut AEA services. Unlike these Republicans, I trust Iowa’s public educators and school districts and their commitment to educating our children. I believe most Iowans do. Let’s bring back the Iowa public school system that was once top in the nation."
